![]() Fate Untold reads like a secret fae realm or vampire coven could be coming to a town near you. The modern aspects go beyond the NYC locale to include references to iPads, Gossip Girl, SATC, and more all in the first few pages. In terms of plot, this book is VERY urban. I’m future books, I expect to see Alluna lean into the ‘found family’ Daisy is offering. Daisy is particularly fun, providing comfort and sisterhood in a time when Alluna so desperately needs it. Khotimsky expertly writes other characters, making them feel less like a plus one for Alluna or Reid and more like key players in the mystery unfolding. Fans of *that scene* in House of Sky and Breath will love a certain part where our lovebirds are having sex MID AIR. But it’s sizzling and well placed within the story. Speaking of the spice, I was pleasantly surprised. As he and Alluna slowly realize they have more in common than they could possibly imagine, their trauma bonding leads to a spicy, unexpected romance. But behind the façade, Reid is battling his own demons. His one liners are funny, oozing with charm and sex appeal. He enters the story full of arrogance and entitlement. Reid, the morally grey love internet, is another source of undoing. This complex relationship is eventually Alluna’s undoing… At a point, it’s alluded that she would allow Vita to set the tone and make all the decisions. Still, Alluna is a little lost without her elder sister. Their differences extend to temperament, interests, attitude, and personality. Khotimsky’s descriptions of the Day sisters are fascinating Vita is like springtime while Alluna is a crisp autumn day. And it will take trusting a complete stranger and falling into a world of visions, magic, and mayhem to find the truth. But in her search for answers, she’ll find Vita is not the only lost girl. In the absence of Vita, Alluna must face her grief, trauma, and fear her sister isn’t coming back. Though the authorities have given up, effectively signing her death warrant, her sister, Alluna, is not convinced.
