![]() ![]() A recent update to Chrome added the ability to detect when you're using a compromised password as well as enhanced safe browsing. This doesn't quite match the abundance of features that you can get with Firefox or Opera, but Chrome definitely ticks most of the mission-critical boxes. As the dominant browser on the market, Chrome is also the most reliable option, as every web developer considers Google's browser when building a website.Ĭhrome offers extensive additional features such as secure storage for payment methods, a "Lite" data-saver mode, automatic translation of dozens of languages, a malicious-ad blocker, a pop-up blocker and the ability to group tabs. ![]() Syncing between mobile and desktop editions of Chrome is helpful, giving you the option to access passwords you've stored in Chrome (provided you don't use one of the best password managers, that is). If you're happy living in the Google ecosystem and believe you've benefited from the company knowing everything about your online life, then it's hard to justify avoiding the default browser on most Android devices. ![]() Meanwhile, Firefox is in a class of its own with a huge number of browser extensions and nearly infinite customization in addition to a picture-in-picture mode and a detachable search widget.īesides its private search engine, DuckDuckGo also has an Android browser that doesn’t track you and automatically secures all of your web connections. Brave puts an emphasis on privacy by blocking all third-party ads and trackers with DuckDuckGo as its default search engine. Vivaldi packs in a QR-code reader, a note-taking applet and captures full web pages. Edge is great for mobile shoppers as it lets you quickly organize information on deals but you need to be in the U.S. Opera can help you save data on your cellular plan by compressing web pages so that they load faster and it also has a VPN-like proxy service for improved private browsing. We’re also happy it’s now the default browser on most Android phones now that the original Android “Browser” is no longer available.Ĭhrome sync well between its mobile and desktop versions, offers secure data storage for credit card numbers, saves your passwords and blocks both pop-up ads and malicious ads.Īt the same time, Firefox, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi and Microsoft Edge also feature the ability to sync across platforms while delivering loads of useful features. If you encounter a new form that you want to enter the same data for, you can select the profile and Magic Fill will do the rest. We’ve tested nearly a dozen different Android browsers but Google Chrome still took the top spot as the best all-around choice. This tool allows you to save the data you’ve recently entered into a form as a profile. Our absolute favourite Maxthon party trick, though, is Magic Fill. These features can be furthered bolstered with addons, though our inability to read Chinese rather put paid to any attempts to test them. File Sniffer lists Flash content on a webpage and allows you to download it with a single click, while Ad Hunter, Content Control and Filter make it easy to block Flash, scripts, pop-ups, webpages, keywords, or any combination of the above. The ability to assign keyboard shortcuts to webpages is handy, as is Split View, which opens two browsing windows side-by-side, each with their own tabs. Maxthon also borrows Opera’s Speed Dial feature, which displays thumbnail views of the user’s nine most visited sites when they open a new tab. Multiple tabs can be saved and opened as a group and there’s a surprisingly extensive screen-grab utility that puts those free internet packages to shame. The browser’s start page is bursting with information, including RSS feeds and favourites, and a list of recently visited and most visited sites. It’s stuffed with features, and many of them are rather good. Actually, proliferation is the perfect word to describe Maxthon.
